About EG Learning

The BETA Economic Growth Training Center (EGLC) is being developed to enhance the training experience and increase information sharing for the Economic Growth Office's EG Training Program.

The Economic Growth Training Program builds intellectual and technical leadership capacity in USAID through continuous learning presented via in-person, online collaborative, and online self-paced courses. The program aims to:

  • Create a common and shared base of technical knowledge for all EG officers.
  • Strengthen the sense of network and communities of practice among EG officers.
  • Improve knowledge sharing and dissemination of best practices and lessons learned.

The anchor course of this program is the Overview Course, which focuses on:

  • Macroeconomic Policy and Institutions
  • Commercial Law and Institutional Reform
  • Trade and Investment
  • Financial Sector Development
  • Privatization
  • Enterprise Development/Competitiveness

Additionally, there are in-depth courses that address technical competency areas for economic growth officers in greater depth and detail. These courses include:

  • Financial Sector Development
  • EG in Post-Conflict Countries
  • Trade and Investment
  • Enterprise Development/Competitiveness
  • Macroeconomic Policy
  • Commercial Law and Institutional Reform

The in-depth courses provide EG Officers with more detailed knowledge and enable officers to upgrade and deepen their technical skills over the course of their careers.

Since 2000, the Economic Growth Training Program has trained close to 2,000 USAID Staff members through in-person courses. Under the KDMD project, the EG Office will expand the training program to meet an increase in USAID professional workforce. Through a blended learning approach, the EG Office will offer both in-person and online training experiences. The online training will integrate live sessions, self-paced modules, and interactive opportunities. The EGLC will help facilitate a continuous learning experience so that a network of peers and subject matter experts can maintain collaboration after the completion of an EG course.

On the EGLC, you will eventually find information on all EG courses and related events. You can set up an account on the EGLC by clicking the Create Account box on any page. All courses currently being offered can be found in the Course Catalog. Once you have an account, you can register for a course for which you are eligible. All course participants are expected to review logistical information and pre-course requirements prior to the training event.

All USAID staff interested in taking courses is required to sign up for EG courses on the USAID University website.
